Did negligent security contribute to this tragic loss of Britney Mazanec and are justice and compensation available to Ms. Mazanec’s family?

LOCAL NEWS

A woman is dead after being found shot at a Niles, Ohio bar early Sunday morning, February 24, 2019.

According to WFMJ.com, “the incident happened at the Hideaway Lounge bar and grill on Route 422 at around 2:30 am.”  The news report indicates “the victim is 33-year-old Britney Ann Mazanec.”  According to TribToday.com, one suspect was taken into custody and “investigators are gathering information on what led up to the shooting.”

OUR LEGAL TAKE

Bar and lounge patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided in the bar parking lot and whether this tragedy may have been prevented.

  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property?
  • Was the suspect seen on the property before the incident?
  • What security measures, such as bright parking lot lighting, surveillance cameras, and security patrols, were in place to deter crime and protect Ms. Mazanec at the time of the shooting?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the bar or parking lot owners failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, Ms. Mazanec’s family may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for their loss.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that Ms. Mazanecs family retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
