Did a Fatal Security Lapse Contribute to This Deadly Las Vegas Parking Lot Shooting?
Local News
39-year-old Latoya Norgina Woolen was reportedly shot and killed in a Las Vegas shopping center parking lot Sunday night, March 19, 2017.
According to The Las Vegas Review-Journal, the shooting occurred “about 8:45 p.m. Sunday in a parking lot behind Cowtown Boots, 1050 E. Flamingo Road.”
Police apparently told The Las Vegas Sun, they believe Ms. Woolen “might have been waiting – possibly for a ride – near a wall at the complex when someone came from behind and shot her.”

Our Legal Take
Parking lot and apartment complex guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided on the property where this shooting took place and whether this tragedy may have been prevented.
- What security measures, such as bright lighting, security patrols and surveillance cameras, were in place to deter crime at the time of the shooting?
- Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property? If so, were any additional security precautions implemented by the property owner and management to protect guests?
Generally, property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the owner or management of the shopping center parking lot failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the family of Latoya Norgina Woolen may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for her wrongful death.
Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victims retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
