Did negligent security contribute to the fatal shooting of two fathers? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victims’ families may have a legal avenue for justice and claims for compensation
Local News
A shooting outside El Chente sports bar reportedly claimed the lives of Jorge Lagunes Manzanilla and Miguel Anzures Saturday, October 15, 2016.
According to KPRC News 2, the fatal shooting occurred outside “El Chente sports bar…around 2 a.m.” Police are reportedly reviewing surveillance footage from a nearby gas station to uncover details. They have not yet identified a suspect or motive.
Family members apparently told News 2, “Mr. Manzanilla had four children and Mr. Anzures had children living in Mexico.”
Our Legal Take
Business and parking lot patrons have a right to feel safe and secure on the property that they are visiting. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided in the parking lot and whether this tragic loss of life may have been prevented.

What security measures, such as bright lighting, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
- October crime reports, from Spotcrime.com, reveal a number of recent robberies and assaults in the area. Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property? If so, were any additional security measures implemented by the bar or parking lot owner to deter crime?
Generally, property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the parking lot owner or manager failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the families of Mr. Manzanilla and Mr. Anzures may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for their wrongful deaths.
Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victims’ families retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
