A shooting at the Marion restaurant reportedly claimed the life of 20-year-old Raishawn Graves Sunday morning, November 20, 2016.
According to SC-NOW Morning News, gunfire erupted “shortly after 6:45 a.m. at the Huddle House along US 76.” Mr. Graves was transported to the hospital for emergency care. A suspect has apparently since turned himself in to Marion Police, per WBTW reports.
Our Legal Take
Restaurant patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises of the establishment they are visiting. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the restaurant and whether this tragic loss of life may have been prevented.
- What restaurant and parking lot security measures, such as bright lighting, security patrols and surveillance cameras, were in place to deter crime at the time of the shooting?
- Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property and, if so, were any additional security precautions implemented by the property owner or management to protect patrons?
Generally, property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the restaurant owner or management failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the family of Raishawn Graves may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for his wrongful death.
Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
