Did negligent security contribute to this tragic home invasion shooting? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim may have a claim for compensation.
Local News
A woman was reportedly shot in her Summit Arbor Circle apartment home during a robbery-home invasion Saturday morning, April 23, 2016.
According to Fox13 News, “two suspects approached the victim outside the home in the 2700 block of Summit Arbor Circle around 7 a.m. and one of the suspects put a gun to her head and guided her back to the apartment.” The assailants apparently shot the victim in the abdomen before fleeing the scene with several stolen items. The victim was transported to Regional One in critical condition. Her current condition has not been released.
Police are still searching for the two suspects, presumably leaving local residents once again concerned for their safety. Police reports indicate a home invasion-sexual assault occurred at The Summit Apartments on Summit Arbor Circle in March 2015.
Our Legal Take
Apartment residents have a right to feel safe and secure within the community. Given the reported history of violence in the neighborhood, The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the Summit Arbor Circle apartment complex and whether this unconscionable attack may have been prevented.
- How did the intruders gain entry to the property? What security measures, such as gated entry, bright lighting, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place at the time of the shooting?
- Were any additional security precautions implemented by the property owner, following the reported March 2015 Summit Arbor Circle apartment home invasion, to deter crime and protect residents?
Generally, property owners are required to protect all residents legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the complex owner or management company failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victim may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for her injuries.
Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
